SEO Techniques Used To Boost Malware Sites

A new Mac malware program called MACDefender has been released whose creators have used SEO techniques to boost their malware websites to the top of Google and other search engine results for some searches. This is only one of the strategies they are using to convince more sophisticated users that the software is for real, and trick them into installing it.
The software looks legitimate in most details, and it even opens a fake Windows screen that shows a fake scan of your computer being conducted, along with a fake results window that tells you your Mac is infected. In addition, the malware site uses JavaScript to force a download of the actual malware app installer as a Zip file. The software has a solid Mac look and feel, and the orange shield will glow red when it "detects" a virus, which is also fake because it's not really checking for anything.
